5 MINUTES WITH… STORM CALYSTA
When we travelled the USA last year we stopped in Austin, Texas where so shot with Storm Calysta. Storm is very talented musician and model who we have followed for a while now and love seeing her amazing content. We caught up with Storm to ask her a few questions…
For those new to your music how would you describe your sound?
Far-out, melodic, pop music of the future that is dripping in elements of nostalgia.
What were your musical beginnings?
I was involved in choir since a very early age. I have always been obsessed with singing & began writing my own music at the age of 8. Soon after, I began taking french horn & violin lessons, then I taught myself guitar
If you could spend an hour with any musician alive or dead who would it be?
David Bowie, I would’ve loved to pick his beautiful brain.
What music did you listen to growing up?
Primarily rock n’ roll & soul – that’s what my parents listened to.
What is a song you wish you’d written?
Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues
What has been your all-time favourite gig?
Woodstock in 1969 was quite spectacular.
Who or what inspires you?
I’m inspired by the beauty & struggles we experience in our lives. I create the art & music that comes to my brain naturally.
You also model for a lot of incredible brands, how important is fashion to you?
Fashion is an outlet for me to express my inner-thoughts visually, where as my music is my most inner-thoughts expressed audibly.
How would you describe your style?
It’s very eclectic. My fashion style is inspired by space, western wear, the 60s, 70s & really whatever I’m instinctively drawn to.
Do you have one piece of clothing that’s more special than the others and what’s the story behind it?
I have a few pieces that I received from Janis Joplin’s family as a gift, I keep those very close to me.
We know you’re an avid thrifter, do you have any tips for our followers on finding those unique gems?
I always seek for luxury fabrics & interesting patterns, then I analyze the cut & style of the piece.
