A Calling for Autumn

I have been holding onto the name House of the Rising Sun for a while, waiting for the right moment to bring it to life. After the softness of Tales of Time I felt a calling to go deeper and more mysterious for autumn. This season always makes me reach for rich textures like velvet, embroidery, corduroy and faux fur trims. Recently I have been so inspired by celestial and zodiac symbols, and with a palette of deep blues, fiery oranges, reds and metallics, it just felt right for the mood I was in.

Icons and Muses

This capsule is filled with ornate detailing, romantic bohemia, abstract celestial shapes and prints, with embroidery that feels surprising and unexpected. Biba and Thea Porter were both in my mind while designing, and the spirit of my muses Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, Anita Pallenberg and Florence Welch can be felt in the silhouettes, fabrics and styling. You can see them in the velvets, the lurex, the metallic threads and in the way I designed the outfits to be styled head to toe, layered with jewels and headscarves.

Stories of Craft and Travel

Travel always plays a part in my inspiration too. India has been such an important influence for me over the years with its incredible history of craft, and after visiting again at the start of this year those details naturally found their way into the collection. Our Sunshine of Your Love Embroidered Patchwork Jacket and the Aurora Blue Sheer Embroidered Mini Dress both carry that spirit, with hand-finished touches that look so beautiful alongside Erin’s artwork. When it came to photographing the capsule, we chose a Moroccan restaurant with rich colours and textures. It felt like the perfect setting, and echoed the shapes and symbols that run through the collection.

Textures to Treasure

I really wanted to explore fabrics and textures in a way that felt rich and layered. Velvet runs throughout, embroidered and finished with mirror work. Cotton blouses are decorated with intricate embroidery, and corduroy is adorned with beadwork and mirror work that feels perfect for autumn. To balance those heavier fabrics, I also used soft viscose georgettes, light and floaty, which I love layering underneath coats trimmed with faux fur.

Pieces Close to My Heart

There are a few pieces that feel especially close to me. The Stardust Brown Corduroy Embroidered Set, with its mix of embroidery, mirror work and beadwork, is something completely new for us and I’m so proud of how it turned out. The Sunshine of Your Love Patchwork Jacket is another highlight, a true statement piece with its mix of print, appliqué, beadwork and embroidery. Erin’s artwork has once again amazed me, and our talented artisans in India have taken it to a whole new level with their finishing.

Another piece that feels very personal is the Amethyst Purple Medallion High Neck Maxi Dress. It’s so beautifully bohemian and dreamlike, and I know it will be one I wear on repeat. I can already see myself styling it with boots and layered jewels through party season, and I love that it’s versatile enough to work for everyday too.

The Power of Colour

Colour has shaped so much of the mood of this capsule. From the very beginning I saw it in jewel tones, warm browns and golden metallics. There are smaller colour stories throughout, like the jewel tones paired with the medallion print or earthy browns alongside golden embroidery. It feels rich, bold and striking, and I’m so glad you dreamers have embraced this shift towards deeper colours since our relaunch.

A Little Everyday Magic

For me, House of the Rising Sun is about bringing magic into the everyday. Even through pregnancy over the past nine months, dressing in layers of texture and adorning myself in my favourite jewels has reminded me of how powerful clothes are in helping me feel like myself. That’s the energy I want these pieces to bring to you too.

Ten Years On

Ten years into The Hippie Shake, sharing each new capsule still feels just as exciting and just as nerve-wracking. I pour so much of myself into these collections, and my hope is always that if I love them, they will resonate with you too. House of the Rising Sun feels like another step in our journey together. It celebrates craft, heritage and authenticity, but also carries the bohemian, celestial and ornate spirit that has always been at the heart of our brand.
