Who We Are
The story of
The Hippie Shake
Hello, dreamers.
We’re Naomi and Ben, founders of The Hippie Shake – a London-based fashion brand that’s been delivering heirloom-worthy pieces since 2016.
As a married couple, we’ve been creative partners in crime for as long as we can remember. The Hippie Shake is our homage to the vintage style muses we’re eternally obsessed with, the musical icons that have soundtracked our lives, and the round-the-world adventures we’ve been on that continue to inspire our design outlook.

Skilled craftsmanship, delicate details and intricate embroidery sit at the heart of our collections – ensuring that every garment is as unique as it is everlasting.

The result is a carefully curated lineup of statement showstoppers, elevated daywear classics and soft, dreamy silhouettes that will look exceptional in your wardrobe today and (hopefully) forever.

From London to Pushkar to Woodstock
In the early days of the brand, The Hippie Shake was a place for us to share the vintage pieces we'd sourced on road trips around the US and the UK. We'd rock up to estate sales, rummage through warehouses and immerse ourselves in the impeccable era-specific detailing that has paved the way for the original pieces we design today.
Sameting for more 'us' was brewing though...
Naomi's background in styling and art direction meant she was already dreaming up full collections in her head, inspired by the one-of-a-kind garments we were selling.
New friends invited us to their homes for tea, where we'd get to view their stunning collections of vintage Bollywood pieces. You'll notice that influence in the needlework we use in our collections today: from the gold zari embroidery of our floral motifs, to the traditional aari embroidery adorning our trims.
Our six weeks in India set the wheels in motion for a life-changing, round-the-world exploration of design, creativity and possibility.

On the next leg of our journey, we headed to the States once again and hit the road for a magical three-month voyage that took us through LA, San Francisco, Las Vegas and New Orleans.
It was the stuff of dreams. Photoshoots in the desert, thrift stores, Airstreams and motels, untouched 50s diners, a sea of vintage denim – and then, Woodstock. Our most serendipitous encounter yet.

It was there that we stayed in a 70s-inspired Airbnb and fell in love with the spectacular psychedelic wallpaper and soft furnishings, designed by its owner – the multidisciplinary artist, Erin Cadigan.
It felt like fate. From tour posters to textiles, Erin’s work spoke to every creative influence in our bones, and she was promptly invited to design for The Hippie Shake.

She still creates all of our prints to this day, bringing Naomi’s mood boards and drawings to life in an ongoing collaboration that fuses our love of Indian handwork, vintage America and 70s counterculture – all with a British twist that has become uniquely The Hippie Shake.

Designed for the dreamers
"Having the freedom to explore my self-expression through what I wear is a feeling I can't quite explain, but it's something I want to bottle and share with the world through The Hippie Shake.
The aim has always been to create vintage-inspired pieces that feel authentic in both detail and quality. Trends come and go. but we intend to remain timeless and become those beloved gems that will be passed down for generations”
- Naomi, co-founder

A brief
history

New Kid in Town
Just two dreamers with an obsession for vintage. We begin selling pieces sourced on our travels and borrow our name from the 1959 Chan Romero song, Hippy Hippy Shake.
‘Could this be kismet?’
A round-the-world trip takes us to Pushkar, where we make our first-ever collection, and Woodstock, where we cross paths with artist Erin Cadigan and ask her to design for us (she says yes!)

Start Me Up
Mystic Revival launches: our debut collection of bohemian prints and silhouettes that are perfect for summer days and the festival season.

London Calling
The Hippie Shake community grows. We host our first pop-up store in east London and absolutely love getting to meet our fabulous customers in person.

The Times They Are A-Changin
Covid hits, and our Heartbreak Saloon collection gets stuck in India. We go back to basics, selling vintage through Instagram, as well as making printed face masks and raising over £5K for Black Lives Matter.

This Must Be The Place
We move into our Bermondsey HQ, transforming it into a 70s inspired haven that becomes home for the next three and a half years – and the birthplace of our signature collection, Heroes.

With a Little Help From My Friends
We launch our Studio 34 Sessions, inviting artists including Sierra Ferrell, Katy J Pearson, The Nude Party, Black Honey and FUR to perform live at The Hippie Shake HQ.

What Happens On Tour
We mark the release of On Tour ‘74 – aka our most ambitious collection to date – with a campaign video that captures a day in the life of a band. It culminates in a gig at a working men’s club in east London, where hundreds of customers join us for an unforgettable night.

Stop! In the Name of Love
After pouring our hearts and souls into The Hippie Shake for eight years, we announce we’re taking a break to step back and prioritise our well-being – but it’s not goodbye forever.

The Return of The Hippie Shake
A trip to India, where it all began, inspires ournext chapter. We announce our relaunch, with a shift towards releasing smaller, limited capsules. Alongside this, The Hippie Shake Re-Loved lands: an official marketplace for buying and selling pre-loved The Hippie Shake pieces.
