Big, shaggy and made to be thrown over everything, the Paddington Cream Shaggy Coat takes its cue from the curly Mongolian-style coats we love from the 70s. The cream faux fur has loads of texture, while contrast brown faux leather frames the waist and centre front to give the shape a little more definition.

We finished it with an oversized retro collar, big statement buttons and an internal pocket, keeping all the details strong without making it feel too busy. It’s one of those coats that instantly makes an outfit, whether it’s thrown over flared denim and boots or worn buttoned up over one of the Underground jumpsuits.

We can picture it on a cold day in London with oversized shades, a vintage bag and very little else needed. Think Ali MacGraw in the early 70s, pared back underneath and letting the coat do the talking.

Underground

Underground began with the London we picture from the late 60s and early 70s. Tiled stations, old carriage windows, bold directional signs, flashes of red, cream and brown, people heading across town in big coats, boots and flares, stopping for records or coffee before carrying on somewhere else.

We loved the look of the Underground from that time. The curved windows, graphic arrows, strong shapes and colours all had so much character, and slowly those details started finding their way into the collection. The half-flower windows seen at old London stations became the appliqué around the Archway dress, while arrows and geometric panelling run through the denim, jumpsuits and outerwear.

From there we started thinking about 70s uniform dressing. Pieces you could wear across the whole day and keep mixing together. A fitted shirt with cropped flares and boots, a jumpsuit under a huge coat, denim with patchwork leather. The collection was designed to work as one wardrobe, with pieces that could be swapped around depending on the day ahead.

The Making Of Underground

A note from Naomi Hession

If I had to sum up Underground in one image, it would be London street style in 1969. Big coats, flared trousers, knee-high boots and enormous sunglasses. People dressed brilliantly, but still dressed for an actual day of getting around London.
