Told by Naomi Hession
Sometimes a collection arrives in your mind like a spark you can’t ignore. For me, Tales of Time was one of those moments.
The idea came to me during our break from the business when I finally had the space to soak in all the little things inspiring me. The kind of things that take root quietly and then bloom into something bigger. Like a lightbulb, the name Tales of Time brought it all together.
I kept coming back to the way clothes were once embroidered to tell stories. The handwork of the 60s and 70s where a jacket or a pair of trousers might be scattered with flowers, moons, butterflies and little details that spoke of love, music and wanderlust. Old storybooks also became a huge part of the vision. Their covers adorned with winding vines, gold lettering and art nouveau flourishes. That’s where the colour palette came from. Greens, teals, reds and browns pulled from those worn, magical covers that feel like they’ve lived a hundred lives.
I wanted Tales of Time to tell its own stories through intricate, meaningful details. Cross-stitch and ari handwork, lace inserts, ornate cuffs, gold beaded trims, all bound together with whipstitching like the spine of a leather-bound book. When it came to mood and spirit I looked to the icons who’ve always stirred my heart. Stevie Nicks for her shapes and drama, Joan Baez for her folk soul and Marianne Faithfull for that effortless, laid-back edge. There’s a handmade quality here that nods to late 60s treasures, rich with storytelling embroidery, whimsical prints and the romance of floral vines, butterflies and lace.
My hope is that these pieces make you feel like the main character in a romantic book you get to live every day. Light layers, soft fabrics and breezy shapes that move with you. A sleeve that swishes just right, a hem that catches the air, all balancing drama with dreaminess.
Some pieces I can’t stop staring at. Erin’s embroidery has a raw beauty to it, especially on the cross-stitch set, which I think could be framed as art. The storytelling embroidery on the whipstitch set feels like an old book cover come to life. And for something new, the faux leather jacket inspired by the East West jackets worn by rockstars let us play with laser-cut appliqué florals, adding a folk twist to a classic.
If I had to choose the pieces that best capture the heart of the capsule it would be the Some Kind of Magic Embroidered Mini Dress and the Once Upon A Vine Embroidered Duster. They feel exactly how I imagined this collection should. Thoughtful details, rich textures and a mood you can almost hear in song.
Styling-wise I imagine these pieces carrying you through the last of summer into the slow turn of autumn. Layering up for festivals, gigs or everyday moments. Baker hats swapped for fur-trimmed ones, bare legs traded for long boots and faux-fur coats thrown over the top. Whether you’re wandering a vintage shop, performing on stage or just feeling the need for a little everyday magic, these pieces are made to be lived in.
Tales of Time also feels like a reflection of where I am now. Softer, more bohemian and more rooted in what I truly love. Beautiful fabrics, dreamy shapes, embroidery that tells stories. I picture myself in Laurel Canyon or Topanga, hair tousled, the Californian sun on my face, carrying that confidence and ease into everything I wear.
Above all, I hope when you see Tales of Time you feel that rush of recognition. The gasp when you find something that feels made for you. The way it’s so rare to find a piece that feels like a treasure. If even one dreamer feels that connection then all the love and work that went into this capsule is worth it.
Each piece feels like turning the pages of an enchanted storybook, where, spoiler alert, you’re the impeccably dressed heroine.
