A style queen who has reigned supreme for a career spanning over six decades - continuously turning out smash hits and jaw-dropping fits.
From her boundary-breaking Bob Mackie dress that left everyone in awe to her iconic stage ensembles that exude glamour, Cher has always been a trendsetter. And let's not forget her chart-topping hits that have captured the hearts of listeners worldwide and made us all believe in life after love.

So, let's turn back time to revisit the iconic looks that could be the template for your next night off of the sofa, from the one and only pop goddess, Cher!
Festival season each year is the opportune time to experiment with looks from all era’s. Taking to the grassy catwalk with a lookbook that expresses your unique sense of style and playing with silhouettes that don’t quite qualify as standard office wear. Although I'd love to see a sea of sequin dresses and flower crowns on my morning commute, I doubt corporate bosses would offer the same approval.

People of all ages flock to live music gigs to experience performances that touch their hearts, to soak up the feel-good atmosphere and to enter into a dreamscape far from the pressures of normal life. Music and fashion go hand in hand to deliver escapism on a platter and offer a playground fit for rule-breaking.

“I don’t swear by any rules, because think that it cuts down on the creativity. When I started, everyone thought that my makeup was crazy. And I thought it was beautiful. I think that you just limit yourself when you think about rules. I don’t think girls do today, because there’s such a wide range of what we now think of this beauty. Limitations don’t seem to go anymore.” - Cher

Cher herself broke a lot of records…and rules. Let’s just say, the star didn’t like to conform. Much like festival goer’s Cher enjoyed exploring a heightened sense of fashion, wearing daring looks ahead of her time that she knew would capture attention... because life is actually too short to oppose true self expression and to not have fun with whatever you decide to wear, right?

But, back to Cher. One head turning piece was the number she wore to the Oscars in 1986. A headdress that made the headlines, solidifying her status as a fashion icon in years to come.

I was too flamboyant and didn’t dress like a serious actress, and I had a young boyfriend. So I just decided I would go all out.” - Cher

The Academy wasn’t quite ready for this larger than life accessory, labelling Cher as an unserious actress. But, this outfit was more than just a fun, outlandish look. Her choice of clothing communicated her free-spirited, rebellious nature; playing into the Academy’s hands by doing what she does best, being her over the top, unapologetic self. Cher's ability to stay true to herself and confidently embrace her own style, regardless of the critics, is a valuable lesson we can all learn from.
Steering away from accessories, Cher often explored the bohemian and hippie-inspired styles that were popular in the '60s and '70s. She effortlessly incorporated flowing maxi dresses, bell-bottom pants, and fringe accents into her wardrobe, which again showcased her free-spirited side.

So it’s no wonder that the next aesthetic up for discussion is the humble two-piece, with the superpower of being a simple, but effective way to steal the show.
For an outfit that's both captivating and free-spirited, let's take inspiration from Cher's iconic flower print two-piece ensemble. Start by slipping into a floral maxi skirt and pair with a flared cut-out crop top, to radiate a carefree and bohemian vibe, which is perfect for a night of exploration and adventure.

On another occasion, Cher dazzled in a metallic two-piece. Leaning into a glamorous disco inspired look. The shimmery, halter-neck perfectly complimented her complexion, while the matching trousers hugged her curves. This outfit was both bold and fun, showcasing Cher's confident personality and her ability to effortlessly pull off any look. If you’re into a disco core aesthetic, then this could be the set for you.

For those who prefer understated glamour - Cher also embraced the power of monochromatic two-pieces. Whether it was a crisp white blazer and matching shorts or a tailored black jacket and trousers, these ensembles displayed a timeless elegance.

Ah! And how could we ever forget Cher's Bob Mackie dress! When it comes to making a fashion statement, Cher never disappoints, and her collaboration with the legendary designer Bob Mackie gave birth to some truly iconic looks. One particular dress was the sheer, sequined masterpiece she wore to the Met-Gala in 1974, which has since become a template for other A-listers gowns. This dress featured a daring, strategically placed design that left little to the imagination, which presented Cher's confidence and fearlessness.

Now, let's take style notes from Cher's wardrobe and incorporate that same boldness into your next outfit. Channel the spirit of Cher's Bob Mackie dress by opting for a form-fitting dress that showcases your figure. Look for pieces with unique detailing such as intricate beading, sequins, or sheer elements to add a touch of glamour and allure.

“Until you’re ready to look foolish, you’ll never have the possibility of being great.

Remember, the key to channelling Cher's style is embracing your own uniqueness. Find an outfit that makes you feel empowered and showcases your personal flair. Ultimately, Cher's style journey has been incredibly eclectic, exploring risque s that pushed boundaries in the world of fashion. So get creative on your next night out and take inspiration from one of these iconic looks.
